Jordan Hadži Konstantinov-Džinot

Džinot is a significant enlightener and reformer in the history of the Macedonian people. He was born in 1821 in Veles and he spent four decades of his life to his efforts for introduction of instruction in people’s language. He established the first free of charge school in Veles. In the preserved historical records, he appears as the author of the first dramatic acts and as the first Macedonian journalist. His first book Tablica Pervaja was put into practice in 1845. Due to his reformer’s activity he was often prosecuted. He died in 1882 in Veles and he was buried in the yard of the Saint Saviour’s Church. The theatre in Veles is called after him today, and his house is transformed in a memorial.
